Interesting article regarding the LGBT's
feelings towards the Reagan's. Ronald Reagan
is viewed as top 5 in presidents and is beloved
by many in regards to his legacy.

As for Nancy Reagan, she fought for what she
believed in and even went against the Republican issues in later years. Stem cell
research was important to honor her husband.

I do get the resentment and hatered though that
many in the gay community have to this day.

AIDS was new during the Reagan administration
and the likes of it were never seen before. Many
lost lovers, friends and family. President Reagan
should have spoken up much sooner, but Nancy
finally got him to acknowledge the battle to the
American people.

Reagan spoke early, he blamed it on God giving gays what they deserved. This, as their close friends from Hollywood were dying. Lovely people. Public sentiment finally forced him to be publicly sympathetic. Their legacy is what it is - sold arms to IRAN to fund an illegal war, led the fight against Unions, cut taxes for the rich and the safety net for the poor, raised the deficit to new heights. Raised taxes on working people 17 times - rich folks, not so much. When Reagan took office 75% of the budget came from corporate taxes, 25% from income taxes. When he left, it was reversed.

I haven't heard that about blaming God. Are you sure about that and perhaps heard that based on rumor from angry gay groups spreading gossip based on their resentment towards President Reagan? Is there video or audio documenting this or is it the liberal press who presented this?

I do know they had gay friends and I believe it was Rock Hudson's death that probably got the president to talk more about AIDS.

I can't imagine President Reagan saying that. At least not in public. I also wonder the tone if he did, whether it was angry or just based on a religious viewpoint where many in the past have felt it was sinful.

As for the rest of what you mentioned, yes I know.

The gist of his comments was it is what happens when one goes against God's plan and nature. I remember it well, I'll look for any articles. I do not remember an angry tone but it was his belief. He had no compassion.

I have not found direct quotes that match what I said previously. His first comments on AIDS was more than two years after Rock Hudson died - 1987. When Hudson asked for help he was denied. AIDS funding was around a million a year, Legionnaires Disease 10 million. He also signed a law prohibiting any money from the Fed being used to educate anyone about condom use and safe sex. It speaks for itself.
