Some exciting things happening this week.

On Tuesday, I went to a taping of The Late Show with Steven Colbert. I never watched his old show but think he's really great as Letterman's replacement.

Many of you would find one of the guests he had on as interesting.
Ellen Page was a guest promoting her new film which has ties to the LGBT community.

She also mentioned that she came out about a year and a half ago. The program
aired that same night, which also included Jesse Eisenberg as a guest and a
wacky inventor named Dominic Wilcox. They usually tape around 5:30pm and the
the show airs the same night, as does most of the late night talk shows.

I've been to the Ed Sullivan Theater many times and it has been nicely redone.
Beautiful inside, which they show on camera as well. Stained glass windows and
amazing ceilings. First class renovation. This of course is the historic theater
where the Beatles and Elvis Presley played on Ed Sullivan's program and just about anyone and everyone in show business during that great run of his shows.

I didn't even have tickets and walked by and asked if I could get in. Stand by tickets are handed out at 1pm the day of the taping and I came by afterwards and got lucky. Didn't seem as hard to get in as I thought. Usually the procedure is on the internet and the tickets go fast when they are offered.

Yesterday I won tickets to an upcoming concert on a radio call in contest. Songs in the Key of Life was one of the first albums I ever purchased as a kid. That album remains as one of my favorite albums ever. Stevie Wonder is just great and I saw him about seven years ago at Madison Square Garden in concert. During that performance Tony Bennett made a surprise appearance and sang "For Once in My Life" with him, a song that they recorded for Bennett's duet album. Also Prince did a number with Stevie as well, but ..... seeing Stevie Wonder performing the ENTIRE album of Songs in the Key of Life will be the biggest thrill for me. It doesn't get better than that and I can't wait!

Later this week or next week I'll be getting my first iPhone. I don't need the new one and will get an older model. That's fine for now, since I'm used to a basic cell phone anyway. Down the road I'll get a newer model, but this will be a brand new phone, just an older model and a nice price break. I might get a smart device so I can use my television as a monitor for internet access, since my computer died a few months ago. I'll probably get a new computer soon anyway, but for now, this will be like using the old WebTV.

Oh and speaking of Steven Colbert, I was standing in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater about a week ago around 11pm at night and was talking to two gentlemen. I said to one of them, that he looks a lot like Steven Colbert without glasses.
We were talking about comedy clubs, something I'm involved with right now. I said that he looks like him without the glasses and he kind of smiled. I asked them where they were from and his friend said North Carolina. I think that may have been him. Steve has mentioned on his show that he is from South Carolina.
I never really watched the old show and not that familiar with him but since that night I've been watching just about every show and his facial expressions and smile seemed the same. It was probably him and he probably wanted to be low key about it. He's really funny and I like his new show so much better than Jimmy Fallon's. Colbert doesn't do long sketches or drag things out and does a quick opening and pretty much gets right to the guests along with some great topics from the news and amazing. He has great writers from his staff.

Anyway, not a bad week so far and I haven't even checked my Powerball tickets from last night. I'm not sure if anyone won yet but the jackpot was over $300 Million Dollars! That would be nice!!

Thanks Kevin. Got my first iPhone on Saturday, but not the new model. This is the iPhone 4S and just fine for now. I have internet access again, but I hate typing pn here. Used to typing quickly on a full size keyboard.

I also purchased Apple TV too, along with a wireless keyboard. Returning the keyboard because it's too hard to use with Apple TV and is mostly compatable for a Mac. I like Apple TV very much though and it mirrors the internet on my phone. Kind of like WebTV.

Apple TV also streams Hulu, Netflix and so many great video feeds and radio stations. I love primetime network shows and classic television programs and woll probably be subscribing to it soon. I probably can cancel my cable tv service with all the shows on Hulu, but really love my dvr too.

There's a new version of Apple TV hitting the stores later this month, so I might exchange it for the upgraded features. I can live with this version too though. So great and such a small compact unit that does amazing things for you. The current version is only $69.00. Great price and one of the best electronic devices I've ever seen.

I like my iPhone, but hate this keyboard. I keep hitting wrong letters because the keyboard is sp small. Hopefully I'll get a Mac or PC soon. This took over 10 minutes for me to type out. I probably could have typed this entire reply in a minute or less than two minutes tops. At least you have voice searches for Google and Siri on the iPhone, which is very helpful and nice.

I'm on a Googletv, the last model that Sony Built.Of course Googled ditched it,so no more updates. It's like Webtv/ MSNTV all over again.Waiting for a new generation Asus Chromebox to come out...with wireless keyboard and mouse. It's mind blowing how Technology has evolved...since webtv days eh? It's also amazing how we learned to use all this stuff.

That sounds pretty cool. I'm seriously thinking of skipping Windows 10 and Pc's in place of a Mac.

Apple products are so nice and almost virus free.

Sounds like you really enjoy your technology and the toys that go hand and with it. It really is fun. I also agree with you on how cool it is to use these devices on our television screens.

I love Apple TV but really ticked off by the poor customer service by Apple - endless hold times on the phone, Apple only giving you 90 day phone support on new purchases and reps who mislead and have attitudes

Yesterday I went through hell with the 5th Avenue store and kept getting hung up on.
Trying to resolve it at 2am last might with rude reps. Not so sure I want to keep buying their products after yesterday. See my tweets about this subject matter.

Also putting up photos taken in NYC today. I stopped by CBS Radio today to pick up the Stevie Wonder tickets I won for tomorrow night and got some photos at their radio stations.

So sorry to hear what you went through and I'm glad you survived. I hope you are feeling better.

Enjoy the internet browsing on your TV and stay in touch with us on Rasap. People from the past have been posting lately like Kevin, Lee and Richie for awhile. Hopefully Richie will return again soon and is ok. Good to hear from you Paul.

I'm really enjoying your twitter feed @ilikeoldthings. It's really informative and entertaining - a nice mix of nostalgia, history and some interesting new talent thrown in. Also, I like seeing your picture on the account - very distinguished, but the picture of your w/ Stevie Wonder is just fantastic. It is so nice to see you smiling - it's strange but it really puts you in a who new light from how I had always perceived you.

Thanks for the nice compliments Kevin. The anger you have seen from me over the years is probably tied into depression and anxiety. Still dealing with it, but things have improved.

With the iPhone I recently got, I'm an
able to use it to take photos of my photographs and reproduce them for postings. I'm glad you liked that photo. The Stevie Wonder concert was a joy and brought back so many memories of buying Songs in the Key of Life as my first album as a kid and probably remaining one of my favorite albums ever for me. 3 and a half hours devoted to the entire album... Ed Sheeran a surprise guest and a medley of his hits after the album.

Thanks Lee... I would have no problem sharing a win like that with you and the others posting in RASAP now. A couple of years ago I just missed a 10 million dollar jackpot in NJ Lotto. Had the first five numbers and missed the last lotto ball by one digit. The number I needed was 40 and I had 41! 49 lotto balls and only off by one number.

Can't stop thinking of that and only $1,407 as a pay off. It was also a low return based on the number combinations and I guess how many other people hit a series of five numbers. Life goes on though.
