. . . who advocate the death penalty for being homosexual. Ted's supporters are okay with that. However when The Pope weighs in that a politician who wants to build a wall to keep out the poor is not very Christian and they have a snit about the Pope getting involved in politics. Hypocrites all.

I can have a discussion with you respectfully now compared to a week ago when people on the left were celebrating Scalia's death, which really made me angry. This man whether you liked him or not had a brilliant legal mind and tried to uphold the law of the land. His conservatism unfortuately was consistent to how many under his politics view same sex marriage and homosexuality. So many of the arguments he ruled on were reflected from a strong Roman Catholic man who was brought up with traditional values and have similar views as the pope and Roman Catholic Church does.

The same can be said about the two recently appointed women Supreme Court justices who rule mostly on their liberal views. I'd like to think judges rule on the side of the law rather than personal reflection, but we did see Chief Justice Roberts save Obamacare what was originally coined The Affordable Care Act. His ruling was a disappointment to many in what we thought would go a different way.

I believe the pope is a good man but should stay out of the political fights. Telling the United States how to run the country is not his job. A radio talk show host mentioned that if the Vatican is concerned about the poor, the church should sell all their possessions and properties which is worth a fortune and give it to the poor. When this pope came up he was very modest and turned down a lot of luxuries afforded to people in his position.

It goes beyond helping the poor and needy. Unsecured borders put Americans at risk in different ways. Terrorism in this day of age, drugs and associated crimes that go hand in hand, diseases being transported with illegal immigration, illegal voting which some are aiding those here to help Democrats and jobs that belong to US citizens first, even if they are jobs nobody wants. There should be a legal order for all of this. Deporting 12 million people, which is probably more like 15 or 20 million isn't the answer either, but what kind of country will we have in 10 or 20 years from now if we continue to pay out benefits to illegals? Charity begins at home and we must secure the borders.

Cruz has his faults too. If you are gay, he will probably get very little support from gay groups but I look at the overall picture in what I think is best for our country. This election cycle is a joke and offers very little choice. Seeing what's out there, I feel Ted Cruz would be the best answer. That is my opinion after following this closely.

I appreciate your post. While we will not agree on many things it is nice to be able to discuss even when agreement is not possible.

My problem here is his - The Pope was not telling the US what to do politically, he was defining Christian faith. Trump claims he is a great Christian - even though he cannot pronounce the books in the Bible correctly and does not know the proper name for Communion Host. He appears to be flying under a flag of convenience to court evangelicals. Yet when fundamentalist Christians state that they want the Us to lock you up and kill you, and your man Ted welcomes their endorsement I have a problem with that. If they wanted to kill you because of your religion I think you would look at it differently - since your religion can be changed, but your sexuality cannot.

I do not see anything on the table from Mr. Cruz that will do anything but run up the deficit and make healthcare unobtainable. That is his plan.

You are right that this is a bad election cycle. I am not happy with Hillary, but she is the only grown up in the room these days. I do not condone her mistakes - but the charges against her have always been greatly blown far out of proportion. The same people looking at her e-mail have pointed out the General Powell did something similar when he was in charge of the State dept. Yet no one dwells on that.

But, we will see how it plays out. My vote and yours will cancel each other out most likey so I guess we will just have to live with that.

I never thought I say this but there's a slight chance I might vote for Hillary if it came down to Trump and her. I was a big fan of The Apprentice, but that's mostly fantasy and play and what he's doing to the political system is scary and disgraceful. I never once said I would vote for him and considered, but not anymore.

I would hate not to exercise my right to vote and may have to vote for her. I still think there's a chance Biden can get in depending how this plays out.

As for your point about Cruz. Point taken. While Ted embraced those people, I'm sure he wouldn't support a death penalty for homosexuality but that is still outrageous and on par with someone embracing Hitler. I get it but here's my problem Kevin .... I just don't agree very much with the left these days. Cruz to me reflects my personal best choice. I'm sorry to say that but I'm taking the entire picture into account.

I do agree this is much better to be respectful and have a great conversation. I'm lost and disenchanted right now with all of these politicians fighting on both sides. Democrats and Republicans attacking each other and people within their own political party smearing themselves with lies and dirty tricks.

As you said recently "stay tuned"
Btw ... I'm going to Colbert Monday!n
The show the other day with Richard Dreyfuss and Mavis Staples was one of my favorites so far. What Richard said about our future and children's education was so great to hear him take that stand and Mavis singing! What s wonderful gifted lady who relayed how her group sang at Dr. King appearances and that one of MLK's favorite songs was one that her father wrote about the school children referred to as The Little Rock Nine. I really loved that episode of The Late Show this week.

I appreciate the reply - I saw that episode of Colbert, I enjoyed it too. It's a little bit like your Twitter feed - I'm often surprised by what I learn in both places.

Again, thanks Kevin. I didn't watch the debate last night but heard it was the usual theatrics.
